Green Team

Brigantine came out strong for Saturday’s Environmental Event, which included Beach Clean Up, Shredding Truck, Farmer’s Market, Environmental Kids Arts & Crafts, Garden Club Composting Displays & Demonstration, ACUA electric car, Marine Mammal Stranding Center, and a Meet the Green Team table.

Held in the 17th street beach parking lot, the event kicked off at 9am with Clean Communities & Surf Rider Beach Clean up. For the rest of the morning the parking lot was bustling with people patronizing the farm market vendors; dropping off paper to be shredded and recycled; kids making fun African masks, and individuals interested in learning more about composting and future green team projects they can help with over this next year.

Overall feedback from customers, vendors, and visitors was positive.

The farm vendors said they were well received by the crowds and enjoyed the location. Hopefully Brigantine peaked their interest and they and others will consider us for a weekly Farmer’s Market we hope to have on the island in summer/fall of 2014. This is a project the Green Team is working on now. If you’re interested in volunteering in any capacity with this project please complete the Contact Form on this website.

Gina Spadavecchia, an Atlantic City art teacher and local Brigantine resident, made fun African masks from recycled gallon milk jugs and other recycled materials. Thanks to Aunt’s B’s for setting aside the cartons for us! The project was a success and kids filled the tables until the very end.

The Green Team would like to thank Clean Communities for inviting us to participate at their Beach Clean Up/Shredding Event; the ACUA, MMSC, Surf Rider, Brigantine Garden Club, and all the market vendors: Busy Bee’s Honey; Biscotti & More; Cape May Beach Plums; Ernest & Sons Jersey Fresh Produce; Harry & Beans Coffee; Healthy Bites; and Jah’s Creation Organic Farm for their participation. See more photos of the day’s event on the Photo Page.

And last, but certainly not least, Brigantine’s Public Works – we couldn’t have done it without you guys, thank you!
